Greed is a bottomless pit which exhausts the person in an endless effort to satisfy the need without ever reaching satisfaction.
- Erich Fromm
This is true and I agree with this, but greed could also be viewed as the force that drives human competition and subsequent advancement. One can have a greed for riches, but one can also have a greed for intellectual self-improvement or a greed for ever more life accomplishments. This constant need for more drives the people who change society and advance technology, but in the end, is it all really necessary?
